Tubelight has collected well below the mark on Day 1. The Salman Khan starrer started with 35-40% occupancy which was decent considering the wide release of Tubelight and a working Friday. However, the big growth during the day was missing. The reviews were the key here because the film was being driven by Salman Khan and content. Salman Khan gave the film the opening and content had to bring in the numbers from evening onwards. However, average reviews had hurt the film very badly and film was just hovering around the 60-65% occupancy mark in the evening and night shows.
This can be called the lowest Salman Khan occupancy since the release of Jai Ho. Tubelight has collected in the range of 21-22 crores which is on the same lines of Fan last year. The key will be growth and if the decent Saturday growth comes in, there will be a good trend to take it forward after Eid. There is huge capacity of growth and film can double up from here on. Tubelight will need a 20-25% growth on Saturday to consolidate on the decent opening and then Sunday can see a better growth since film will be driven by families in the long run. It’s not the regular Salman Khan starrer which will be driven by masses.
The start has made sure that the film will not cross the 300 crore mark at the box office unless something miraculous happens. 200 crore mark will be the key and that will be decided after Eid. Let’s hope that we get another 200 crore club entrant since Salman Khan has done something different in his career and all should appreciate this.
