Jolly LLB 2 Review!

Joly LLB 2 has finally made its way to the theatres. It is the sequel to the National Award Winning Film Starring Arshad Warsi. This one stars Akshay Kumar, Huma Quershi, Annu Kapoor and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles. This is a film where lawyer is waiting for his big break to reach at the top level.

Very few films are able to connect with the audience and this is one of them. It takes time to form the plot but once it does, you will instantly connect with the film. We will not reveal much about the plot as everyone knows that it’s based on the judicial system of India.

Rustom was also a court room drama but with Jolly LLB 2, Akshay Kumar treats treats you well with comic moments. The only flaw in the film is it’s length. Had it been 15 minutes shorter, it might have turned out to be the best courtroom drama ever.

Akshay Kumar brilliantly carries this film on his brawny arms and is ably supported by Saurabh Shukla and Annu Kapoor. The film has a few dips but offers enough heft to keep you engaged.

Kanpur’s Jagdishwar Mishra aka Jolly (Akshay Kumar) practices in the “Lucknow high court” and wants to own a chamber. His father has been a stenographer for a top lawyer for years, and that makes Jolly his natural successor. At least, this is how he gets treated at work. His boss sends him to buy vegetables and he is also supposed to help arrange a domestic party. He is anything but a self-respecting lawyer.

Post interval though, the film hits a pause button at times. The maker tries to pack in too much legal diatribe between Jolly and his adversary, the topnotch, Pramod Mathur(Annu Kapoor), in Judge Tripathy’s (Saurabh Shukla, delightful as always) Lucknow courtroom.

At its core, Jolly LLB 2 is the story of the condition of courts in the country, much like its predecessor. Akshay Kumar is the driving force of this drama. Director Subhash Kapoor doesn’t do enough to extract the best of Akshay’s comic timing. But there are enough to get by. Saurabh Shukla’s dialogues make you break into a laugh every now and then. The man steals the show.

It fully embraces its dramatic bits — something else that’s gone missing from today’s Bollywood — it does fling in contrivances which take away from the core strength of the film. Especially towards the end, which gets stretched, and a trifle preachy about Hindu-Muslim ekta and bhaichara.
